Airport lounge access
Short answer
Lounge access on cards is a quota, not a lifestyle: typically N visits per quarter, increasingly unlocked by a spend condition (say, ₹35,000–₹75,000 in the previous quarter — indicative, as of 2026), valid at partner lounges via the card or an app. It is genuinely valuable if you actually fly — worth roughly the entry fee (~₹1,000–₹1,500 a visit) times visits you would have paid for — and it changes without much ceremony, so check the current rules before you travel.
What it means
Lounges charge per entry; banks buy access in bulk and ration it to cardholders as a premium perk. The rationing has tightened industry-wide: unlimited became quarterly quotas, quotas grew spend conditions, and swipe-your-card became show-the-app at many lounges.
The common mistake
Choosing a card for the lounge line without multiplying it out. The benefit's value is entry fee times your real usage — not the brochure's maximum. A ₹2,500-fee card justified by "8 free visits" you never take is a fee, full stop; the same card in the hands of a weekly flyer pays for itself by March.
The subtlety worth knowing
Access terms are among the most frequently revised card benefits, and revisions bind you from their effective date. The bank's card page — not last year's memory, not a blog — is the only current source. A two-minute check before the airport beats an argument at the lounge desk.

Frequently asked questions
Why was I denied entry despite my card advertising lounge access?
Usual suspects: the quarter's quota exhausted, the spend condition for this quarter not met, that specific lounge dropped from the partner list, or access moving from the physical card to the bank's app. Check the card's current lounge terms a day before flying - current, because these lists genuinely change.
How much is lounge access actually worth?
Paid entry runs about ₹1,000-₹1,500 a visit. Count only visits you would genuinely have paid for - for most people that is a handful a year. Two real visits a quarter roughly justifies a mid-tier fee card; if you fly twice a year, it justifies very little. It is a travel perk, not a reason to own a card.
